Maria Fernald is a dual-certified, doctorly prepared nurse practitioner (DNP) specialized in both Psychiatric Mental Health and Pediatric Primary Care.  Maria completed her doctorate degree and postgraduate training at the University of Pittsburgh.

Prior to joining the Nexus Group, Maria worked as a nurse practitioner providing integrated pediatric primary care and behavioral health in Harford County, Maryland.  Additionally, Maria’s experience spans from years working in the emergency department as a registered nurse as well as with survivors of trauma through the child advocacy center.

Maria has a passion for empowering individuals to find the strength within themselves to access healing and personal development.  She recognizes and upholds evidence-based practice while simultaneously valuing integrative medicine as a valid complementary tool for person-centered care.

Maria employs a comprehensive focus on care, including psychotherapy and prescribing mental health medications when indicated, for children, adolescents, and adults.  Her interests and expertise involve ADHD, neurodivergence, trauma, and stress-related disorders as well as anxiety and depression.  Maria is open-minded, encouraging, and direct.  Her passion for mental health work stems from the inspiration her patients have fostered through their consistent resiliency despite life’s intense challenges.  When working with Maria, you will have a dedicated advocate throughout your journey.

When not at work, Maria enjoys reading and exploring Pittsburgh’s beautiful parks with her husband and two young children, often with a coffee (and pastry) in-hand.
