TMS Therapy at the Nexus Group

The Nexus Group has been providing TMS therapy to patients with “treatment refractory depression”, meaning they had previously received minimal or no relief from 4 or more antidepressants. About 50-80% of patients that have experienced depression, and who wanted to benefit from medication but ultimately failed, experienced a positive and substantial response to TMS treatment. A third of those same individuals experienced complete remission of their depression symptoms.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a type of drug-free, FDA approved, non-invasive, brain stimulating therapy that uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain. The stimulation triggers the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine – which reduce or eliminate patients’ depression symptoms. The repetition of stimulation helps training neuronal activity becoming self-sustained.  TMS is mentioned as the first treatment wholly designed around basic neuroscience principles.

The typical treatment plan consists of 36 sessions over 9 week period. Treatments are provided Monday through Friday and takes about 20-30 minutes/session. Nexus TMS is covered by insurance and our Patient Advocate works with patients on every single step in navigating insurance coverage. Nexus TMS patients remain awake and alert during the treatment time, enjoying music of their choice, aromatherapy, and snacks in their treatment session.

The Nexus Group is leading private outpatient mental health practice in Pittsburgh area that provides TMS treatment therapy. While Neurostar is a commonly used in chain TMS facilities, Nexus Group invested in two world leading TMS technologies for its proven effectiveness and patient-centric design: Apollo by Mag&More and Deep TMS by Brainsway.  Apollo by Mag&More is designed, engineered, and manufactured in Germany. Its high-end, innovative, patient-centric technology that provides absolute comfort and effectiveness to TMS patients is the reason why Nexus TMS collaborated with Mag&More to bring Apollo technology to the US. Deep TMS by Brainsway has been known in the US as the only TMS technology that utilizes electromagnetic fields generated by patented H-coil to safely reach deeper brain structures and influence their neural activity. The Nexus Group is the only private outpatient mental health clinic in Pittsburgh that partnered with Brainsway to bring this cutting-edge technology to treat TMS patients in Pittsburgh area.  Both technologies have been proven as highly effective treatments and facilitate profound improvement in a patient’s mental health.
